Buying at auction is easy and it's a great way to furnish your home, buy a gift, start a collection, add to an existing one or just buy one item that fires your imagination.

How to buy

Registration

You can bid in person after filling in a registration form at reception.  Registration is free and there is no obligation to bid.  You will be given a numbered "paddle" to bid with.

Telephone Bid 

Alternatively you can book a telephone bid directly with us, for lots with an estimate starting at £200. Give us a call or book by email.  There is no charge for this service.

Absentee Bid

If you have other plans on auction day, you can leave an absentee bid with us in person before the auction, by telephoning us or by email. Simply leave your details and the maximum amount you wish to bid up to and the auctioneer will have your bid on the rostrum.  Please give us an email address and you will be contacted after the auction with details of your bid, if successful.

Online Bid 

You can also bid online at the-saleroom.com.  Please bear in mind there is an additional charge of 3% for this service.

Winning a Bid

If you are the winning bidder, you can pay at reception or by telephone with a debit or credit card.  Please note we do not take payment by cheque or American Express.

If you are interested in a lot which is unsold, it may be possible to make an offer post-sale.  Please ask at reception or give us a call for further information.

 Buyer's Premium 

Commission is charged at 22% + VAT, on top of the hammer price.  For example, if the lot is sold for £100, the

commission will be £22 + VAT, i.e. £26.40.

 Collecting your Item

Collection of purchased lots should take place by close of business on Wednesday following the auction. We allow 2 days of free storage, and you should arrange to collect in this time or your lots will be subject to our storage charges of £2 +VAT per lot per day on small items, and £5 +VAT per lot per day on large items or part lots. Please note that if items are not collected in time, storage charges apply.

For convenience we offer a shipping service on smaller items, and easy to pack lots excluding furniture. Please make sure to enquire with us if you interested in buying a lot whether we are able to offer shipping.

We can give you details of local companies who provide a delivery service for larger items.
